What is it going to take to make my church more missions minded? This is a question that I hear to often. I think that the answer would definitely be arms, legs would probably be the first thing. We have got to start thinking of ourselves as the body and bride of Christ...when we come together to worship that is what it is. It is a time where we get to love one another and build each other up. It should be viewed as more of a family reunion rather than a way to reach the lost.
I know the scriptures say that when they see us interacting together and the way that we love one another they will see that we follow Jesus and I do think that this is a big part of Evangelization but it should not be the only form of evangelization. We get stuck in this mind set that missions has to be birthed out of our walls and that is totally wrong. We are the church or the bride and body of Christ and what we are doing, who we are supporting and we are involved in our church is involved in. Not the programs that are done through our walls
My definition of a missions minded church is a building that is full of people that are living a missional life. A missional life is a life that says "God, I do not care about my life or my own kingdom but I care about you and yours". I will always be ready to do and be everything you have called me to be. This is what it means to follow Jesus.... We traded our life for his death so that we could receive life. SO he could live through us on this earth.
I know a church right now that says that they are not a missions minded church but I know a lot of the people it and what they are involved in. I know for a fact that a lot of them are supporting missions through their personal finances. I know that a lot of them are doing trips domestically and internationally to share the love of Jesus. I know a lot of them are praying daily for the nations. But yet they say they are not a missions minded Church. In my eyes they are a group of people that are totally in love with Jesus and just want his Kingdom to come that happens to meeting at a building that does not do a lot of outreaches or have a lot of programs.
if you think that your church is not a "Missions Minded" Church then I would like to encourage you to do a little research and instead of asking how many missionaries that your church supports ask the question of how many missionaries are being supported through members of your church. You might be surprised at the out come. When you start to find 10, 20, 30 or maybe even 40 different ministries that are being poured into because the members of your church rather that through your church. You might change your mind set and remember that Jesus is responsible for building the Church and not us.
